Yes, FlexPower is compatible with PSE&G’s new Time of Use (TOU) Rate. During Flex Hours Event days, we’ll shift some of your energy use out of on-peak hours (4 p.m. – 9 p.m. weekdays) when electricity is most expensive to cheaper mid-peak hours.
Smart Thermostats: If you enroll in the Time of Use Rate and enroll a smart thermostat in FlexPower, on Flex Hours Event days we may cool your home before the on-peak hours, then run your A/C or heat pump a little less during on-peak hours. We’ll never precool your home during on-peak hours. Tip: If you enroll in the Time of Use Rate and program your thermostat schedule to reduce your daily on-peak energy consumption throughout the summer, remember that FlexPower will raise your thermostat setpoint a few degrees above your programmed setting to save more energy during Flex Hours Events. If you want to ensure that your home will not rise above or sink below a certain temperature during Flex Hours Events, you can program a max temperature on your thermostat.
EVs and EV Chargers: If you enroll in the Time of Use Rate and enroll an electric vehicle (EV) or charger in Flex Power, we will pause charging during Flex Hours Events. If you usually charge your vehicle during off-peak hours (12 a.m. – 6 a.m.), your charging should not be impacted since Flex Hours Events occur during on-peak or mid-peak hours. If you charge your vehicle during mid-peak or on-peak hours and a Flex Hours Event occurs during this time, the FlexPower program will temporarily pause your EV charging during the event and resume charging once the event has ended. FlexPower will never pause charging or change your charging schedule outside of Flex Hours Events. Tip: To maximize your bill savings on TOU, avoid charging on-peak by setting a schedule on your EV or EV charger’s app to charge only during off-peak hours.
Electric Water Heaters: If you enroll in the Time of Use Rate and enroll an electric water heater in FlexPower, we will pause water heating during Flex Hours Events. After Flex Hours Events end, your water heater schedule goes back to normal, and we will not make any further adjustments until future events. If your water heater detects it is getting too cold during a Flex Hours Event, it will turn back on automatically. Tip: To maximize your bill savings on TOU, avoid heating water on-peak by using less hot water during on-peak hours, or set a schedule in Rheem’s EcoNet app to shift water heating to mid-peak or off-peak hours.
