On extremely hot days, energy demand can spike so much that getting power to everyone who needs it can become inefficient. On days when we anticipate there will be a high demand for energy, the FlexPower Program will schedule Flex Hours Events: this means we’ll shift some of your energy use out of the hours when demand is highest.
If you enrolled in FlexPower with a smart thermostat, we’ll do this by working with your thermostat to keep your home comfortable all day, while being a bit more flexible about when we cool it.
If you enrolled in FlexPower with an electric vehicle, we’ll do this by working with your vehicle to temporarily shift your charging outside of the most high-demand hours.
By tweaking your AC thermostat and/or EV charging schedule during the most high-demand hours, and coordinating your energy use with thousands of others’, we can keep energy demand under control while keeping you comfy and ready to roll.
The FlexPower Program Season runs from June 1st through October 31st.
Remember, even during the program season, we’ll only adjust your devices during Flex Hours Events. These happen up to 20 times in the season, and run a maximum of 4 hours each. The rest of the time, your devices will run on your normal schedule unless it is adjusted by you. We’ll always let you know ahead of time when Flex Hours Events are scheduled.
