How does the SmartFlex program work?

On extremely hot days, energy demand can spike so much that getting power to everyone who needs it can become inefficient. On days when we anticipate there will be a high demand for energy, the SmartFlex program will schedule Flex Hours Events. All you need to do is enroll in the program and consciously reduce your energy use during event hours when notified—by avoiding energy intensive chores like running your dishwasher or washer/dryer, turning your thermostat up a few degrees.

The SmartFlex program season runs from Jun. 1 through Oct. 31. Events can occur up to 6 times during the season, typically on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., and last up to 4 hours. We’ll always notify you in advance when a Flex Hours Event is scheduled. Occasionally, in the case of an emergency, events may be scheduled outside of these times.
