Why should I join the SmartFlex program?

By joining the SmartFlex program, you’re helping us transform the energy system for better and cleaner energy. You’ll earn $1.25 for every kWh saved during Flex Hours Events each year. 

For example, a typical household might use 2–5 kWh during a 3–4 hour peak event. If you reduce your usage by 3 kWh during one event, you’ll earn 3 kWh × $1.25 = $3.75. Participate in all 6 events, and you could earn $3.75 × 6 = $22.5 for the season.

We calculate your energy savings for each Flex Hours Event using a baseline. This baseline is created by averaging your energy usage on your four highest-usage days among the five non-event non-holiday weekdays before the event. We also consider energy usage in the three-hour period four hours before the event starts (e.g., 1-4PM for a 5-7PM event), and adjust your average up or down if your usage is higher or lower during that time compared to the baseline days. To calculate your savings for each Flex Hours Event, we subtract your actual usage during the event hours from your baseline for the event.
